Listen to the audio: Which way, LA?: Silicon Beach Brings Change to Westside

VMD Partners with KCET: Departures

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

We are pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with LA-based community television station KCET. The Venice Media District, along with local non-profits Venice Arts, SPARC, 826LA and the Venice Historical Society, have been tapped to help bring the community together for “Departures,” an online documentary series mapping the cultural history of Los Angeles.

Our mission is to make the production of “Departures” a truly community-based event with the ecclectic spirit of Venice. From behind-the-scenes production volunteers to actual stortytellers featured in the programming, VMD volunteership will help realize that mission.

Call for Volunteers: VMD and KCET are currently seeking volunteers in media, production and post for the one-day event on September 12, 2010. If interested, please contact info@venicemediadistrict.org

Call for Storytellers: KCET wants to hear your story! To learn more, please see event details below.

About “Departures”
KCET’s Departures is an online documentary series mapping the cultural history of Los Angeles. Join us for Departures StoryShare, a one-day community event aimed at capturing the stories of individuals from Venice. These stories are intended to fill the in-between space of the professional, hand-picked interviews featured in each Departures installment, and to add to the authenticity of the neighborhood’s story.

Sunday, September 12
11:00 – 5:00
SPARC (685 Venice Blvd.)

Presented by KCET Television
In partnership with SPARC, 826LA, Venice Arts, Venice Media District and Venice Historical Society

Stories will be recorded primarily in audio. In addition to your story, feel free to bring your photos, video or audio recordings, and a parent, sibling, friend, child, acquaintence. Or just bring yourself. We’ll take care of the rest.
